Bangladesh is one of the world's poorest nations, with an average income of only $360.00 per person. The rural areas have a population of 100 million people--the majority of the country being Muslim, with a Hindu minority. Bangladesh sees very little outreach by Christian groups, since it is a difficult area in which to operate.
The need for food and health supplies
Bengali Evangelical Association (BEA) was founded in 1986 as a Christian Missionary organization. Its goal is to serve the poor and destitute and bring them the gospel of Jesus Christ. When native gospel workers and I (John Biswas), visit the village people, we pray with them, help their children get an education, clothing, healthcare assistance and tell them that Jesus cares about them, as do we.
What we do: Support poor children, distribute Bibles, train Nurse's-aides, train and support Native Missionaries, distribute tracts, plant churches, established a goat program, relief and development. In the U.S., we work with volunteers, host awareness seminars and benefit concerts, conduct educational mission trips, and raise support for Bangladesh Mission Work. There are wonderful fruits of changed lives, baptisms and new congregations in one of the poorest areas of the world. BEA reaches out in such a practical, service-oriented way that they have earned the respect and affection among the Muslim and Hindu populace among whom we serve.
